A cold that suddenly worsens with high fever and fast breathing is a warning.
Chest indrawing, flaring nostrils and grunting mean the lungs are struggling.
Small frequent feeds and extra fluids matter as much as the first dose of medicine.
Cough can linger. We review to be sure the chest is clear and growth has not dipped.
Air entry, crackles, oxygen and hydration decide the first step.
X-ray or blood work is used when the child is very young, very sick or not improving.
Hib, pneumococcal, measles and flu vaccines cut the risk of severe pneumonia.
We want fewer breaths, better feeding and a cooler child within the planned window.
We take a full history — onset, feeding, fever, sleep, school and any earlier reports.
Growth, chest, tummy, skin and development are checked. Tests are advised only if they change care.
A clear home plan is given, with a review so we know the child is settling.
Go urgently if the child is under two months, has chest indrawing, is bluish, or is too breathless to feed.
